The Island
Writers: Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Caspian Tredwell- Owen
Director: Michael Bay
Starring: Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Sean Bean and Steve Buscemi
Yes, a film directed by Michael Bay is in my top fifty of the decade. I loved The Island, in fact, I saw it three times in the cinema. It has a great science fiction concept, which then becomes a thrilling action/chase movie and although it cops out with its ending is still a gripping, exciting film and easily (Not that its much of an accomplishment) Michael Bay's best, which demonstrates that if given a good story and actors, his style and ability to craft action scenes, can really work.

Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Writer: Nick Park
Directors: Nick Park and Steve Box
You've got to love Wallace and Gromit and you've got to love Wallace and Gromit, with their stop motion animation, on the big screen, referencing classic horror movies. A witty, visually striking family film, which rightfully spread the genius and lovability of Wallace & Gromit to a bigger audience.

War of the Worlds
Writers: Josh Friedman and David Koepp
Director: Steven Spielberg
Starring: Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning and Tim Robbins
Another post 9/11 events of the decade influenced and reflective, sci-fi/drama. War of the Worlds is an intense, at times disturbing film which reveals the uglier side of humanity that would reveal itself in the face of such an event. Yes the ending is terrible but everything up to that sappy point demonstrates why Spielberg is one of the finest living filmmakers. An underrated entry into his filmography and covers entirely different ground from his other alien based films.
