European Film Awards 2012
Hi everyone !
Nominations have been anounced for the 25th European Film Awards that will take place in Malta on December 1st 2012.
Last year's winners were all over the place: with Picture, Director, Actress, Actor, Screenplay and even Score awarded to 6 different films.
This year may tend to favor a sweep, the favorite being the Palme d'Or winner "Amour" by Michael Haneke. It actually has a decent shot at being the first film to win the "big five", i.e. Pic, Director, Actress, Actor and Screenplay. In the nomination tally, it is followed by "The Hunt" and "Shame", two films that both earned its leading men a Best Actor award, in Cannes and Venice respectively.
Best Picture Nominees
Amour: 6 noms - Pic, Director, Actress, Actor, Screenplay, Cinematography
The Hunt: 5 noms - Pic, Director, Actor, Screenplay, Editing
Shame: 5 noms - Pic, Director, Actor, Editing, Cinematography
Caesar Must Die: 3 noms - Pic, Director, Editing
The Intouchables: 3 noms - Pic, Actor, Screenplay
Barbara: 2 noms - Pic, Actress
There's also a strong showing for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" with 4 noms: Actor, Cinematography, Production Design and Score.
Trivia
- Release dates once again made a difference, allowing us to see 2011 sensations compete again this year: "Shame", "The Intouchables", "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy", "Carnage"...
- "Intouchables" is a surprising inclusion in the Best Picture race, one year exactly after its French release and following its overwhelming success: 3rd biggest hit of French box-office, Best Actor César for Omar Sy, 400 million $ of international box-office, making it the most successful non-English-speaking film of all time, only behind "The Passion of the Christ".
- I'm not a big fan of the film, but seeing Jacques Audiard's "Rust and Bone" entirely snubbed is surprising. A nod for Marion Cotillard was expected. I can't say this hurts her Oscar chances anyway, since director Michel Hazanavicius ("The Artist") was snubbed too last year and then went to win the César and the Oscar.
- Best Actor is one hell of a line-up ! Funny to see one common nomination for both actors of the "Intouchables" duo.
Here are the nominees below ! You can also vote online for the Audience Award.
