Thanks for your participation in the MPA polls. Nearly 1,000 votes have been cast ! Your votes count for 25% of the final ranking of the nominees, while each Minister also gets 25% of the final vote.
It's now time to reveal the winners, and acknowledge what a tremendous year for movies 2013 was !

This 3rd award announcement is dedicated to the memory of Philip Seymour Hoffman, The Master, whose director and co-stars all WON last year (Paul Thomas Anderson, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams).

Best Documentary Film: The Act of Killing
- 1st nomination and win for Joshua Oppenheimer.

Best Directorial Debut Film: Midnight Globe
- Written, directed and produced by 34-year-old Jonathan Musset. Shooting took place in Nantes and Venice for 5 weeks, and was entirely financed through crowdfunding and personal funds.
- 2nd French film to win this award after "Donoma" in 2011. Last year's winner was "Beasts of the Southern Wild".
- 1st to win in this category without a nomination in another category.

Best Animated Film: The Wind Rises
- 3rd non-English-speaking film nominated in this category, and the first to win.
- 1st nomination and win for writer/director Hayao Miyazaki ("Spirited Away", "Porco Rosso").

Best Visual Effects: Gravity
- First unanimous decision in the history of the Movie Parliament Awards.
- 1st nomination and win for supervisors Timothy Webber (VFX), Chris Lawrence (CG), David Shirk (animation) and Neil Corbould (SFX). 
- 3rd nom and 1st win for British VFX company Framestore (also nominated this year for Iron Man 3 and in 2011 for Harry Potter).

- 2nd win for a Disney song (following the Muppets' "Life's a Happy Song" in 2011).
- 1st win in this category for an animated film.

- 1st nomination and win for Arcade Fire, for their 1st original soundtrack !

- 1st nomination and win for Glenn Freemantle, Skip Lievsay, Niv Adiri and Chris Munro. 
- 2nd nomination and 1st win for Christopher Benstead (music editor): he was previously nominated in 2011 for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes".

Best Hair & Make-Up: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
- 1st win and 2nd nom for Peter King & Richard Taylor; 3rd nom for Rick Findlater. They were nominated last year for "The Hobbit : An Unexpected Journey", while Findlater also got a nom for "The Impossible".
- 8th nom and 1st win for Peter Jackson "Hobbit" trilogy.
- 3rd saga installment in a row to be awarded, following "Harry Potter"  (Best Costume Design) and "The Dark Knight Rises" (Best Sound Design).

- 1st nomination and win for Catherine Martin.

- She is the youngest Palme d'Or recipient ever.

- Michael B. Jordan is 26; he previously starred in "Chronicle" which got a nomination in this category last year for Dane DeHaan.

- She starred in "The Avengers", nominated for VFX last year.
- 1st win for a voice-over performance.

- He won this category last year ("Prometheus"). He also won Best Actor ("Shame") in 2011, for another performance directed by Steve McQueen.
