2011: The Year of the Driver
- "Drive" is the big winner of these MP Awards, with 4 wins: Pic, Director, Sound and Score. With 2 wins each, then come "The Tree of Life" (Editing & Cinematography), "A Separation" (Supporting Actor & Original Screenplay) and "Shame" (Actor & Supporting Actress). The film by Steve McQueen managed to score 2 wins out of its 2 nominations !
- VFX, Cinematography & Promising Actress are our only unanimous decisions.
- Among the 19 categories that mirror the Oscars, only 5 of our winners are actually nominated for the statuette: the screenplay for "A Separation", Hugo's art direction, Drive's sound, Tree of Life's cinematography and Apes' VFX.
- Interestingly, none of our acting winners got nominated for an Oscar, but 3 of them got awarded in 2011 main festivals: Cannes for Dunst, Venice for Fassbender and Berlin for Hosseini. Same can be said for director Nicolas Winding Refn who missed the Oscar nod, but won the Cannes Best Director prize.
- Finally, I'm glad to see my Twitter campaign for "Donoma" revealed fruitful !
Thanks again, and see you next year for the 2012 MP Awards !
