5:40: Well we have relived the beginning before it all ends. Thank you to those of you who visited and followed this page throughout the night. This has been a tough but rewarding and nostalgic experience. I wish some of you would have commented but the number of you who came to visit was more than I expected. Enjoy Deathly Hallows: Part Two and be sure to keep coming back to Movie Parliament for all your film review needs. Thank you once again and good night, good morning or good afternoon wherever you are from.
Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows: Part One are better films but Goblet of Fire still holds number 3 in my to 3 potter films so far. GOF holds a special place in my heart due to the fond memories I have of seeing it in the cinema and the stronger sense of relatability compared to the other films.
5:30- Mad Eye Moody revealed to be Barty Crouch Jr. in disguise. One great actor turns into another. Wish we had seen more of Tennant as Barty.
My quick review of Goblet of Fire (even though it still has time to run): 7/10 Mike Newell does a solid job in bringing the Triwizard tournament onto the screen and making Hogwarts a more relatable and believable school environment, the three lead actors continue to grow and are once again joined by fine additions in the supporting cast. Technically brilliant and promising darker, more dramatic moments to come, this is the turning point in the Harry Potter series.
Favourite Performance: Brendan Gleeson (Mad Eye Moody)
Favourite Moment: Opening, from the graveyard scene to the quidditch world cup
5:24- Harry gets away from Voldermort but Cedric has died, the dark lord has risen, the magical world has changed forever.
5:20- Ralph Fiennes being awesome as Voldermort and once again, hello to Jason Isaacs.
5:15- The Triwizard cup was a portkey! Cedric and Harry in spooky graveyard where he who must not be named is about to make his return.
This film also marks Ralph Fiennes Potter debut.
5:05- Goblet of Fire as a book and a film really is the turning point in the series. First major death, return of Voldermort, this is when everything changes. Final Triwizard challenge about to begin...Hope it ends well for Cedric...
Not long to go now until the end of this marathon. Join in while you can by commenting below and telling your friends. Be sure to keep refreshing the page.
5:00- Harry takes a look into the past yet again to see the uncovering of Barty Crouch Jr.
Reason why the last triwizard challenge is the best? It invokes The Shining, or my mind does while watching it.
4:53- Harry makes it at the last second yet again saving two people rather than one. One more challenge awaits...
4:50- The second Triwizard challenge awaits, my least favourite of the three.
4:45- Hope they don't rerelease all the Potter movies in 3D. Nothing to do with Goblet of Fire just a Potter issue in general. Reviews are saying that the 3D in Deathly Hallows: Part Two is tolerable to great so...
4:41: All that to come with roughly an hour left.
4:40: So the Yule Ball has come and gone, two more Triwizard challenges to go as well as the death of a character and the return of another.
4:35- Love how Snape just stands there, refusing to join in with the tomfoolery of dancing.
4:31- Harry just got REJECTED.
4:30- Alan Rickman continuing to do what he does best as Snape, intimidate children physically and psychologically that is.
4:25- Ron has been sent dress robes, whatever for? Why the Yule Ball of course. A comedic interlude in the films narrative which also makes Hogwarts more believable and relatable as a school.
4:20- Harry passes his first Triwizard challenge, what a surprise. Decent chase sequence across Hogwarts with a dragon though. Time for Ron and Harry to make amends?
4:15- Of course Harry gets the toughest dragon...
4:12- First Triwizard challenge about to begin and Fred and George are taking bets. Wonder what odds Victor Chandler, Betfred and Bet In Play would have on it...
4:08- The majority of Hogwarts students seem to be supporting Cedric Diggory while Harry is lashing out, calling Ron "a git" and Lucius Malfoy "pathetic" how dare he refer to Jason Isaacs that way.
4:05- the Ron/Harry feud rumbles on as Hagrid gives Harry his first clue about the Triwizard tournament. Dragons...they always work, they're big and breathe fire.
4:02- Gary Oldman's face in a fireplace. Sounds like the start of a joke...
4:00- Rita Skeeter, meh.
3:57- Ron just told Harry to piss off, it's not big Ron and it's not clever.
3:55- Not only do Hogwarts have home advantage but they also have two champions, In any other tournament it would stink of fixing.
3:52- I have to say though Dumbledore's aggression towards Harry was completely out of character.
3:50- Goblet of Fire makes Hogwarts feel like an actual, relatable school with the inclusion of more camaraderie between students.
3:46- Seriously what is supposed to be so bad about Goblet of Fire?
3:45- Mad Eye Moody teaching the unforgivable curses to the Hogwarts kids. Pretty nasty spells these, manipulation, torture and death. Very different from ye olde swish and flick.
3:38- Ah Brendan Gleeson as Mad Eye Moody, a great performance by a great actor.
3:36- The different magical schools have arrived and are about to make their entrance into the great hall. All at Hogwarts of course for the Triwizard Tournament.
3:33- Harry and Ron really need a haircut in this film.
3:31- David Tennant is great with everything he does but I especially like him in his small role in this film. The Dark Mark has just been cast by him as Harry is found amongst the wreckage of the camp site.
3:30- Death Eater attack!
3:28- Wish there was a football stadium like this Quidditch world cup final one. Would be breathtaking to see in real life.
3:26- There a lot of things in this film that I like and the Quidditch world cup scenes are right up there, even if we don't get to see the actual final match, the atmosphere created and the stadium are so well done that it doesn't bother me. Hello to Jason Isaacs once again.
3:23- Don't know about you guys but I love that opening, sets the mood perfectly. Harry and Ron awoken early by Hermione as they make their way to the Quidditch world cup. OMG IT'S ROBERT PATTINSON! before he was known worldwide as one of the worlds worst vampires!
Be sure to keep refreshing the page for updates, to comment below and to tell your friends about this marathon before it's too late to join in. This is the last film of this marathon so join in while you can!
3:20- Here we go with Goblet of Fire, ahead of schedule but whatever. This is right up there with my favourite of the Potter films. A darkly lit opening is about to follow. I have fond memories of seeing this film in a cinema so packed that people were actually sitting on the floor and steps of the cinema to see it.
3:17- Last film in the marathon is also by far the most underrated in my opinion.
3:15- Next up Goblet of Fire...
3:12- Need to see Deathly Hallows: Part One again to decide which is my favourite, that or POA. Mind you Goblet of Fire is next in the marathon and unlike many I do like that film. "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" That was Prisoner of Azkaban folks. My quick review : the best of the series so far, POA has the most mature performances yet from the three main leads, Cuaron gives the series a visual flair it did not have before and it manages to be genuinely dark, whilst also emotionally believable.
3:11- Lupin has resigned and is now saying his goodbyes to Harry, I have a suspicion that they will meet again. By the way my rankings for the first three films
Philosopher's Stone- 6/10
Chamber of Secrets- 6/10
Prisoner of Azkaban 7+/10
Yours?
3:09- Sirius Black and Buckbeak fly off into the skies, two innocent lives saved.
3:07- Sirius Black is Free! The film reaches its resolution as Black says goodbye to the godson who thought he had killed his parents and then saved his life. Emotional stuff here guys...
3:04: Another epic EXPECTO PATRONUM moment as Harry performs an action so powerful he thought it was done by his dead father.
3:00- Harry just spoke about living with Sirius in the country, young Sirius so full of life, yet to know the dangers of curtains...
Be sure to keep refreshing the page for the latest updates.
2:55- Despite the fact that Cuaron was gifted with a better book, I do not think Columbus would have made the best of this material like Cuaron did. Columbus did a good job introducing the world but Cuaron, Newell and Yates all took it further in their own ways. If I could have chosen one director to direct the whole series it would have been Cuaron, though I liked what Newell did with Goblet of Fire and I think Yates has grown tremendously as a filmmaker over the course of his four Potter films.
2:52- Here we go with time travel, like I said POA has it all.
2:48- EXPECTO PATRONUM! it's Harry vs. Dementor's as we reach a climax that is not set in some underground Hogwarts dungeon.
2:45- Lupin transforming into a werewolf. POA has it all, werewolves, dementors, time travel, executions, betrayals and Gary Oldman.
2:38- Art direction and cinematography again all looking great and Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman and David Thewlis are sharing a scene...the acting is as you would expect great.
2:36- Gary Oldman makes his first appearance as Sirius Black, his first line being "Only one will die tonight"
2:34- Buckbeak executed, liked how they played up to a music to a point where you thought it would be saved with seconds to be spare but for now...Buckbeak R.I.P...
2:30- Hermione just punched Malfoy, a moment I remember that had a lot of hype around it for some reason when the film was first released.
Be sure to keep refreshing the page for updates, to comment below and to tell your friends about this marathon.
2:25: An hour left of Prisoner of Azkaban. 15 minutes shorter than the previous two this one and my rather tired state is thankful for it.
2:22- Snape catches Harry sneaking around Hogwarts with the Marauders map at night. Lupin shows up and there is a wonderful exchange between the two of them were Rickman says in the greatest way possible "Taking a walk in the moonlight were we" Gosh Snape is sly.
2:17- Just read that 25 midnight screenings for Deathly Hallows: Part Two are sold it in one theatre. That film is going to make a lot of money. Hagrid is about to deliver some very upsetting news about Buckbeak...this film is getting emotional.
2:12- Two bombshells just hit Harry. One that Sirius Black is the reason his parents are dead and two that Sirius Black is his godfather. Dun Dun and indeed Dun
2:06- The Marauder's Map...If there is not a variation of this map for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter then it is a MASSIVE missed opportunity.
2:04- Harry's broom is broken...R.I.P Nimbus 2000.
2:00- Quidditch in the rain, thunder and lightning. Certainly makes a change from the drenched in sunlight, repetitive quidditch scenes we saw in the first two.
1:55- David Thewlis is great as Lupin. The casting throughout the Potter series has been consistently good.
1:54- After all the rules Harry has broken and got away with are they seriously not going to let him go to Hogsmeade because he hasn't filled out a permission form?
1:52: Ridiculous! Alan Rickman in old ladies clothes...good look for him I reckon.
Be sure to keep refreshing this page for updates, to comment and to tell your friends. That shot of the flower dying as the dementor floats by is awesome.
1:45- Harry rides Buckbeak and Draco as usual comes to spoil the party. Despite my feelings about Half Blood Prince it is the film that allows Tom Felton to do his best acting.
1:40- Draco Malfoy looks like a young Gareth Mackenzie (Gareth from the UK Office) in this film.
1:35- I am aware that this gushing praise is of stark contrast to my mocking, ironic tone while watching the first two films, however there is much to like about Prisoner of Azkaban, at least for now. I used to think it was the most overrated Potter film but now that honour falls firmly to Half Blood Prince. Disagree with me? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
1:32- Double, double, toil and trouble...great way to introduce Hogwarts into the film. Something wicked this way comes. Michael Gambon makes his first appearance as Dumbledore, R.I.P Richard Harris you were a great Dumbledore.
1:28- Dementors about to appear. Another element of the book that was brilliantly realized visually
1:25: Azkaban, Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows: Part One are my three favourite Potter films. Hallows: Part One edging it as the favourite for now but that might change after this marathon.
1:22- It's the little things I like about Prisoner of Azkaban, a wizard reading a Stephen Hawking book, the attentiveness of the bald hunchback to Harry Potter and the way he laughs about the aunt incident for that matter.
1:20: Little old lady at twelve o clock! Knight Bus is also dying to be turned into a ride.
1:18- The visualization of the Knight Bus is one of my favourite things about this film and the Harry Potter film series. TAKE IT AWAY ERNIE!
1:13- So Harry has made Aunt Marge turn into a human blowfish, Daniel Radcliffe already acting better than he did in the last two films. Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite of the books by the way, comment below with yours.
1:12- Alfonso Cuaron was such a breath of fresh air for the series visually.
1:10- So here we go with Prisoner of Azkaban and Alfonso Cuaron takes over directing duties. Daniel Radcliffe is notably older as he cheekily performs spells in the middle of the night. My favourite performance and moment of Chamber of Secrets were Brannagh and the flying car. Yours? Be sure to keep refreshing this page, commenting and telling your friends.
1:05: Round of applause for Hagrid, the John Williams score swells and we zoom out of Hogwarts castle and cut to..CREDITS.
1:03: Chamber of Secrets almost over and we are incredibly ahead of schedule and I plan to keep it that way. Prisoner of Azkaban to start straight after the end of this film, rather than at 1:30 as indicated in the original schedule. Anyway my quick review of Chamber of Secrets: Darker than its predecessor and with two fine additions to the cast in the form of Brannagh and Isaacs, Chamber of Secrets is a slight improvement for the series but still suffers from a lot of the flaws of the first one.
01:00- DOBBY IS FREE! Oh what a wonderful life he has ahead of him...
0:57- Jason Isaacs! That is all...
0:55- Now we are going through the typical overlong Columbus resolution.
0:50- Harry defeats the basilisk and destroy the diary of Tom Riddle with one of its fangs...nicely done Mr. Potter, nicely done...
0:48- Went to get some food and have returned to see Harry still fighting the basilisk. Didn't miss much then.
0:44- So Tom Riddle is Lord Voldermort, Ginny opened the Chamber of Secrets and now Potter must face the basilisk, we have well and truly reached the climax of this film.
0:40- These Chamber of Secrets sets are great, how a Harry Potter film has not won an Oscar for Art Direction is beyond me. Perhaps Deathly Hallows: Part Two can fix this decade long oversight.
0:36- Ron, Harry and Lockhart have entered the Chamber of Secrets and Lockhart is about to double cross them, things start collapsing, drama ensues. Still a good half an hour or more left in The Chamber of Secrets. Lockhart's memory charm has backfired giving Branagh a chance to do some more broad comedy.
0:30- Just as I was about to say this film is suffering from a lack of Kenneth Brannagh screen time, he pops up on screen. Getting pretty tied now but almost halfway through the marathon.
0:27- Wonder how all the other films would have been in the hands of Columbus, less good I imagine. Remember to keep refreshing this page for updates, comment below and let your friends know about it.
0:22- Ok that overhead shot of all the spiders coming down would be cool in 3D, if the shot went on for a bit longer that is and they actually came at the screen.
0:20- It's spider time and Ron gets his Indiana Jones moment, instead of "Why snakes?" It's "Why spiders?" Now we see a big massive spider, Aragog. If you are afraid of spiders then this sequence may be unsettling for you...even I find Aragog a bit freaky to look at.
0:15- Jason Isaacs is back on screen and hello to him once again. Hagrid is in deep trouble with the powers above...
0:12- Hermione has been petrified, could Hogwarts be closed? the tension is unbearable oh...no closing but strict new rules in place oh wait no it might close now...unpredictable place is Hogwarts.
0:09- The fifty years ago Hagrid is so poorly done.
0:05- The diary of Tom Riddle is about to take Harry Potter back fifty years to show him things about the Chamber of Secrets. About an hour to go in The Chamber of Secrets, favourite performance is Kenneth Brannagh and so far my favourite moment is probably the flying car sequences. Yours?
0:02: So Hermione got turned into a cat...no big deal. My thoughts turning to Deathly Hallows: Part Two and its Oscar chances, big awards are a no go but it stands a chance in the technicals. Art Direction and score are probably best bets. Your thoughts?
23:56- Potter and Ron about to turn into Crabe and Goyle. This whole effect was better in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One, the stakes were higher and it had Dave Coaches in it.
23:53- Be sure to keep refreshing the page, telling me your Potter opinions in the comments and telling your friends about this marathon. Dumbledore's phoenix just regenerated, Richard Harris in his final film here whether you liked him as Dumbledore or not, he will be missed.
23:48- Harry is getting "the look" from his classmates and another student has now been found petrified. So far I still think this film is pretty much on par with the first if not a tad better due to the added darkness and the inclusion of Brannagh and Isaacs. Your thoughts?
23:45- They ignore the words of Kenneth Brannagh and go about trying to harm each other and now Potter speaks to a snake much to the discomfort of his fellow students.
23:44- It's Potter Vs. Malfoy at the dueling club.
23:40- "Hogwarts is no longer safe" says Dumbledore, my question is, when was it ever safe?
23:37- More voices in Harry's mind, after everything he has experienced it is bizarre that he is not a regular visitor of the Hogwarts counsellor (if they have such a thing) Dobby is back on screen and looking so full of life...
23:31- Another quidditch match and again that Gryffindor girl is entrusted with keeping score guess she must be trustworthy but still a Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff kid should be doing the scoring. This quidditch scene is basically a rehash of the one in the first film. I know I am like a broken record at this stage but Columbus really wasn't good at reigning the material in.
Be sure to keep refreshing this page, tell your friends and comment with your Harry Potter opinions.
23:28- The origin of the Chamber of Secrets is being explained basically its not very nice.
23:22- The Chamber of Secrets has been opened...enemies of the heir beware. Filch is blaming Potter for the death of his cat...all kicking off now.
23:20- Creepy voices getting into Harry's head, forty minutes into the film and the main mystery of the narrative has not even begun yet, these first two films needed to be more ruthless when it came to editing.
23:18- Nimbus 2001 flashy stuff Slytherin guys, Ron just spit a slug out of his mouth call it sick, call it funny but perhaps could have been cut out?
23:15- Again this film did not need to be two and a half hours long and again Kenneth Branagh is great in this film. Truly hilarious as Gilderoy Lockhart, one of my favourite defence against the dark arts teachers. Who is your favourite defence against the dark arts teacher? Comment below and let me know.
23:12: After all the darkness and angst of Deathly Hallows: Part One, Half Blood Prince and Order of the Phoenix it is strange and oddly refreshing to see this series in its lighter days.
23:11- Mandrake screams and the volume goes down...
23:10- Dumbledore and cat lady sure let Harry Potter get away with a LOT of rule breaking.
23:05- The Whomping Willow, the fiercest tree in book and film history? discuss.
23:03- Maybe you can help me in the comments (hint hint)
23:01- Jason Isaacs owns as Lucius Malfoy, between him and Brannagh I am already struggling to decide who gives my favourite performance of this film.
23:00- Hello to Jason Isaacs! If any of you got that reference then you have a good taste in film critics.
22:58- Kenneth Branagh is awesome as Gilderoy Lockhart plus he directed Thor, is there anything that man cannot do?
22:56: Hagrid saves Harry from the very creepy looking folk of Knockturn alley and I believe Gilderoy Lockhart is about to make his first appearance.
22:54: Floo powder makes its entrance..."DIAGONALLY"
22:53- "What exactly is the function of a rubber duck?" asks the father of Ron. Sir, it depends who you ask...
22:50- The Burrow is now on screen, the Weasleys humble abode "I think it's brilliant" says Harry, bizarre that none of the Harry Potter films have won an Oscar for art direction. First appearance of Ginny...
22:48: Here comes Ron in his flying car, something that MUST be turned into a ride.
22:46- Dobby hiding letters from Harry...next thing he will be hacking his phone NOTW style...oh no instead he has lifted a cake in the air he REALLY doesn't want Harry to go to Hogwarts, I mean he is prepared to damage a cake for gods sake!
22:42- Ah Dobby...so young and alive...
Be sure to keep refreshing the page for updates throughout the film and to comment below and let your friends know about this online marathon.
22:40- Time for The Chamber of Secrets according to my clock. Here we go...
22:35- Chamber of Secrets in five minutes...
22:27- My favourite moment of Philosopher's Stone was probably...there aren't any really stand out moments in it but I would have to say...any moment with Alan Rickman on screen which I know is a cop out given my favourite performance in the film was by Alan Rickman. Will have a favourite moment and favourite performance after every film and you can do the same in the comments.
22:25- Also please comment with your thoughts on the Harry Potter series, favourite film, book, character, moment etc. be sure to keep refreshing the page for updates and to spread the word amongst your friends.
22:24: While waiting for Chamber of Secrets why not check the rest of what Movie Parliament has to offer? You know you want to...
22:20- Credits roll, props to John Williams for another great score and everybody else involved. So...Chamber of Secrets will begin in 20 minutes. I'm off for a toilet break. Be sure to keep refreshing the page, comment below and spread the word.
22:18- "I'm not going home, not really" the music swells, the train pulls away and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is over. Soon we will be saying it's over about the Harry Potter series as a whole...
22:15- Neville Longbottom won the house cup for Gryffindor, what a legend that boy is. Can't blame Slytherin for feeling bitter though.
22:12- Ok the first film is nearly over, my quick review: too long and stuffed with exposition, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is enjoyable and sets the ground well but greater things are to come from this series. Dumbledore by the way was cruel to tell Slytherin they had won only to take it away from them straight away, why not just give Gryffindor the house cup straight away?
22:10: So Potter won the final fight, is now in hospital and Dumbledore has come to visit him. While Dumbledore is on screen I would like to take the opportunity to say R.I.P Richard Harris.
22:05- Ok I have done a lot of mocking this film but in all honesty despite its flaws I do enjoy Philosopher's Stone. Ok Voldermorts head was just revealed, those effects have not aged that well. Plus its not Ralph Fiennes so therefore loses many awesome points.
22:02: Fast approaching the end of the film, Ron made a noble wizards chess sacrifice (Which was rather comical to be honest) oh my god quirrel is bad! Snape was trying to save Harry! These shock revelations are making my brain hurt (Sarcasm).
21:56- As always keep refreshing for updates and let us know in the comments which potter film is your favourite and why.
21:54- So the three kids have gone underground in search of the Philosopher's Stone, if Jigsaw was operating in the wizard world this is what his traps would be like. I can just imagine him introducing the wizards chess section "I want to play a game (literally this time) You enjoy the barbaric nature of wizard chess but can you survive being a part of it...live or die...make your choice"
21:50- I would love to listen to Alan Rickman read nursery rhymes in his Snape voice "Hump-ty, Dump-ty...saaat on a wall"
21:45- So Voldermort wants the Philosopher's Stone so he can make his grand comeback (Somebody should tell him that all he needs is Max Clifford)
Be sure to keep refreshing the page for updates, comment with your opinions and spread the word.
21:39- This detention makes NO SENSE! They are being punished for wandering around the school after hours so instead of being sent to bed, not only do they keep them out of bed after hours so as to make them tired for class the next day but they are also taken BY MEMBERS OF STAFF into the forest they were told they could not enter under any circumstances due to the danger it poses to the students. Education standards in the wizarding world...
21:34- Main problem with this film is that it is basically non stop exposition and at two and a half hours way too long for such a short book. Wasn't Order of Phoenix shorter than this film? and Order of the Phoenix is a BIG book.
21:31- An hour to go in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Harry has just seen his dead parents through a mirror, the mirror of arisel to be more precise, as Dumbledore thankfully informs us.
21:27- Be sure to keep refreshing the page to get the latest updates, comment below with your opinions and let your friends know about the event via twitter, facebook etc. Another awesome Snape moment, which is basically every Snape moment.
21:25: Geez something new is introduced every minute, now it is the invisibility cloak. How would you use an invisibility cloak? let me know in the comments and keep it clean.
21:22- It's Christmas! don't you love how fast time flies in this film, two or three scenes ago it was Halloween. Wizards chess is introduced ("That's totally barbaric" Hermione remarks) and the mystery of the film is thickening. What could that three headed dog be guarding?
21:20: Quidditch is a rough game, Harry has caught the snitch! oh joy.
21:16- Not only that but she also marks the score! Unbelievable.
21:15- The commentator is a member of Gryffindor, no bias there then...
21:13- This multi tasking is tough, Harry has got a Nimbus 2000 and his first game of Quidditch is about to begin!
21:10- The troll has been defeated and Snape has a suspicious cut on his leg...
Keep refreshing page for updates.
21: 05- "I think she heard you" well done Harry. Halloween dinner now and a troll is in the dungeon apparently.
21:03- In a film full of introductions we are now introduced to the golden snitch. Now is the levitation lesson, swish and flick guys, swish and flick.
21:00- I know it has been said many times about how young and small the main three are in this film but...they are so young and small. So Harry is now a seeker and gets no punishment for breaking the rules during a flying lesson, scandalous.
20:55- Some of these effects have not aged very well. If you are joining us for this marathon then please comment on this blog with your opinions on the Potter franchise and spread the word by telling your friends via twitter, facebook or any other means of communication.
20:52- Almost an hour into the first Harry Potter movie and an hour into this marathon. The flying lesson scene is about to begin...
20:50- Snape sure knows how to make an entrance into his classroom.
20:45- John Cleese as nearly headless Nick another character we never see again in the films. An appearance in Deathly Hallows: Part Two maybe? No chance. The moving staircases just gives the students of Hogwarts a wonderful excuse for being late to class.
"Why are you late?"
"Um..the staircases moved again"
20:40- That was a total Wayne Bridge/John Terry moment between Harry and Draco right there. Into the great hall and they are about to be sorted by the sorting hat. Dumbledore is informing the students of all the areas to avoid, does he know that all he is doing is making the students want to go there? If he did not mention it and instead put some sort of blocking spell on the third floor and dark forest no kids would get in. First glimpse of Snape, the master at looking suspicious and evil 24/7
Keep refreshing page for updates.
20:36- If you are with me I want your comments! Any opinion you have of the Harry Potter series then let us know in the comments or in the Your Say section. So we have seen Hermione and now all the children are approaching the school via boat, Hogwarts looking good. Hope the building makes it through Deathly Hallows: Part Two untouched...
20:33- Ron and Harry have just met. I think this is going to be the start of a beautiful friendship. How arrogant is Harry just throwing his money around like that? buying the whole trolley...are him and Ron seriously going to eat all of that? waste of money if you ask me.
20:31- Yes Ron's family are now with us. Does nobody notice a ginger family and a kid with glasses running into a wall and vanishing? Ah The Hogwarts Express...
20:30- Hagrid has just told Harry about He Who Must Not Be Named (I will play along with the wizard folk for now) "You're the boy who lived" says Hagrid. Hagrid is now ditching Harry at the train station. First appearance of the Weasleys approaches.
20:26- Harry is going through the process of getting a wand...oh the comedy of breaking things. Here we go...Harry touches Voldermorts (Yes thats right, I'm not afraid to say his name) wand, everything goes light and a wind breezes through as the music swells, would be awesome if that happened every time he picked up his wand throughout the series.
20:24- This blog is already getting on my nerves, have to do everything twice before it will go on. Its annoying now, can't imagine what it will feel like at 4 in the morning while watching Goblet of Fire. Be sure to keep refreshing the page for updates and comments, comment yourself and spread the word about this event by tweeting and/or facebooking this link. Some notes on the film, the goblins are awesome as is the inside of Gringotts, which I imagine will get some exciting screen time in Deathly Hallows: Part Two...
20:20- Diagon Alley makes its first (and only?) appearance. The art direction and music for these films have always been fantastic and this scene is further evidence of that fact. Harry Potter just said "I have no money" how about six billion at the worldwide box office Mr. Potter? got some money now?
20:18- Thanks for the comment Arnaud! Who is the Movie Parliament Minister for Foreign Affairs by the way and a damn good one, if you want to read his (fantastic) reviews then go to the Foreign Affairs section. Dudley just got a tail...no big deal. Now in London and Harry is with Hagrid. This film is moving too fast for me to keep up with this blogging. Harry and Hagrid entering Leaky Cauldron. 18 minutes into the film and Harry has learnt he is a wizard, met Hagrid, learnt about Hogwarts and is now out shopping for his things.
20:13- Hagrid has made his glorious introduction to the Dursleys. Wonder how the Dursley found, paid for and could stand living in that creaky old, wooden house in the middle of what appears to be the most violent sea in the world. Would a kid as selfish as Dudley really stand for and agree to live in a place like that? no internet connection, no TV...no nothing.
20:11- Vernon just asked Dudley why Sunday is such a fine day. The answer is obvious, it's the day of this marathon.
20:08- I wonder what happened to that snake Harry freed from the zoo. Could have been killed as soon as it left, run over maybe...who knows Harry might have just made his life a million times worse, we will never know...
20:05- Ah the days when Harry Potter was just a boy living in the cupboard under the stairs...Daniel Radcliffe is unbelievably young in this film
20:04- This really is not the night for the mechanics of this blog to start playing up! "Good luck Harry Potter" Dumbledore says as we cut to the title.
20:03- Expect some spelling mistakes over the course of the night. Meanwhile Hagrid has just arrived on his flying motorbike.
20:00- And so it begins here we go with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
19:56- My DVD of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is in and the main menu is up. Getting ready for what will be a long but hopefully enjoyable and nostalgic night.
19:50- So in ten minutes the Movie Parliament Harry Potter marathon begins with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. If you are joining me for this marathon then thank you very much and let me know in the comments of this blog which Harry Potter film is your favourite and why, who is your favourite character, who gives your favourite performance of the series and any other opinions you have about the Harry Potter film series as a whole, also be sure to tell us your name and where you are from. As we are starting with the first film I would also like to know what memories you have of seeing the first film for the first time and when we have finished watching the film what your favourite moment was and who you think gave the best performance. Also as I hope you will be watching the films wherever you are along with me you can in the comments do what I am doing in this blog and give your own live thoughts as we go through the films. You will have to keep on refreshing the page to see when I update the blog and when people have commented. If you are participating then be sure to tell all your friends by tweeting, facebooking, myspacing this page and spread the word about this online, worldwide, interactive event. Lets relive the beginning before it all ends…
